FAQ: Take a Survey
Temple University’s Institute for Survey Research owns, manages and operates BeHeardPhilly℠.
Participants can choose how often they want to take surveys. Possible options are: more than once a month, once a month, more than once a year, or once a year.
BeHeardPhilly is the first city-wide survey panel in the United States, representing the diverse demographics of Philadelphians. BeHeardPhilly is movement meant to give a voice to residents in every part of the city. Our participants volunteer to have their voices heard by researchers interested in the thoughts, opinions, and behaviors of people in the city.
Surveys come local government, non-profit organizations, and academic researchers, so topics will vary. include: education, crime and violence, transportation, public health, among others.
All surveys will be sent from Temple University’s Institute for Survey Research. However, the questions may come from local government, non-profit organizations, and academic researchers who want to know about the life and opinions of people in Philadelphia.
There are many benefits to joining BeHeardPhilly! You will have a chance to have your voice heard by important decision makers and researchers in Philadelphia. Your voice is important! You will become an integral part of a movement aimed at creating positive impact in Philadelphia.Upon taking surveys, users may also be entered in raffles, giveaways, etc to earn sports tickets, gifts, and other rewards. In addition, most surveys will include monetary incentives i.e. gift cards and/or cash.
Information is foundational to positive change. The more people that participate in BeHeardPhilly, the more information that like the City and other organizations serving the people of Philadelphia will have to create an impact in the City. By participating in BeHeardPhilly, you represent your community in voicing your opinions and thoughts, and sharing about your life.
Any participant can opt out of either answering a specific question or taking a survey all together. If there are topics that you find unfavorable, you can decline to take a survey at any point. However, you will still be eligible to take surveys in the future if you are still interested.
All personal contact information including names, emails, and phone numbers will be removed from the survey data file. Participants’ data and information will always be kept private and password protected at all times. The actual data is collected by our team of analysts and presented to local government, non-profit, and municipal entities in Philadelphia. All results are presented completely anonymously. We do this in order to keep the results unbiased and trustworthy. Again—we specifically present the data so it does not highlight the beliefs or opinions of any one individual, but rather gives a concise breakdown of overall satisfaction with specific programs and initiatives.

Currently, we are accepting people who are 18 years old and above and live in Philadelphia—north, south, west, and anywhere in between. People who live outside of Philadelphia and/or people who visit the city often for work or pleasure are encouraged to join as well. However, people from other counties may not be eligible for every survey.

All data is shared with ISR and the specific organization funding the survey; however, all participants will remain anonymous.
Currently BeHeardPhilly does not regularly hold in person meetings. However, there are opportunities to be involved in focus groups where we invite participants to discuss a topic in person. However, Involvement in a focus group necessitates an invitation. The best way to be invited to participate in our focus groups is to stay active and involved in BeHeardPhilly!
We partner with organizations that are actively interested in conducting extensive survey research in order to gauge public opinion. It’s up to the organization to decide what to do with the data but we always give our partners the data they need to create a positive impact.
