In March 2016, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney announced his proposal for a tax on sugary drinks like soda, sweetened teas, and fruit-flavored drinks. Karen Glanz, PhD commissioned a citywide survey through BeHeardPhilly℠ to collect baseline data as a foundation to evaluate the impact of Philadelphia's beverage tax on beverage intake.
Beverage intake was assessed before the tax implementation. BeHeardPhilly℠ members were asked questions related to: Access to sugary beverages, opinion on politics related to sugary drinks, beverage consumption, frequency of consumption, family member beverage habits.
